LIGHT INDUSTRY PILOT - 2024

The Light Industry Project generated federal, state and local government support for a six-month pilot project in 2024. The program of work was also supported by philanthropic group Everyvoice, as well as through UniSC’s LAUNCH research funding.

The work included a ‘first of its kind’ manufacturing and creative industries showcase that attracted more than 300 people to Kunda Park on a mid-winter’s night.

PARTNER AND STAKEHOLDER
WORKSHOP - 26th July 2024

The Partners and Stakeholders Workshop provided an opportunity for Kunda Park business owners, representatives from all tiers of government, and members of key industry groups to discuss and explore the vital role of industrial precincts on the Sunshine Coast, Queensland, Australia. We also discussed the intention for UniSC and its project partners (Manufacturing Excellence Forum SC, Light Industry, CleanTech and Sunshine Coast Council) to develop grant applications that will support investment in industrial and manufacturing futures.

The workshop is part of a larger UniSC research project that aims to explore and understand the complex range of stakeholders in existing regional industrial precincts. It aims to articulate why these precincts are important, what their future may look like, and to confirm and explore the range of strategic resources, infrastructures and activities necessary to support them.

Where to From Here
opening event + Q&A

Where to From Here was a unique, multi-arts collaboration between Light Industry artists Nicole Voevodin-Cash and Teddy Horton.

The Horizon Festival commissioned the installation/exhibition/performance as part of its 2023 Homegrown series.

Where to from Here intervened in the ‘end of life’ journey of mattresses from the Sunshine Coast’s hospitality sector. With 1.8 million mattresses discarded each year in Australia, the experimental installation combined photography, AI and sculptural elements in its exploration of innovative solutions to big environmental challenges.

From a Light Industry perspective, Where to From Here is a great example of artists taking the lead in innovation and experimentation when it comes to the revitalisation of manufacturing, the growth of circular economies and the transition to net zero.
